What is an SHL assessment test?

SHL publishes assessments that employers can combine for a role. A candidate may receive one numerical or verbal ability test, the Verify Interactive G+ battery, several separate Verify tests or a broader assessment process. The phrase SHL assessment therefore identifies the provider, not a universal set of questions.

Cognivy's launch route covers nine scored cognitive and ability tracks. It does not claim to cover the complete SHL catalogue: OPQ, personality questionnaires, situational judgement, interviews, job simulations and other non-cognitive products are outside the launch practice library.

How do I identify the SHL test I need?

Record the most specific assessment name shown in your invitation, landing page or instructions before the timed portion begins. Do not prepare for every SHL format when the employer has already told you which one matters.

• Whether the instructions say interactive, activity-based or adaptive
• The stated time limit, question count and navigation rules
• The calculator rule for a numerical assessment
• Your deadline, system requirements and any employer-specific instructions

The assessment category

Is an SHL test an aptitude test or psychometric assessment?

Psychometric assessment is the broad category. SHL aptitude tests are one part of that category and measure abilities such as numerical, verbal, deductive and inductive reasoning. SHL also publishes personality, behavioural and job-focused assessments, so not every SHL test is an aptitude test.

Cognivy's launch library focuses on scored cognitive and ability preparation. Choose the specific test named in your invitation rather than treating every psychometric assessment as the same task.

What is an SHL reading test?

Candidates sometimes use SHL reading test to mean Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability or Verbal Reasoning. All three involve written information, but they can ask you to extract facts, understand workplace material or evaluate whether a conclusion follows from a passage.

SHL lists Verbal Ability as the replacement route for its retired Reading Comprehension product. Older Verbal Reasoning invitations can instead map to Verbal Ability or a deductive assessment. Use the most specific current name you can find before choosing your practice route.

Non verbal reasoning and verbal reasoning: what is the difference?

Verbal reasoning uses written passages, statements and arguments. Non-verbal reasoning is a broader candidate term for problems built from patterns, diagrams, sequences, matrices or spatial relationships rather than extended text.

SHL may name a specific non-verbal assessment such as Inductive Reasoning or Spatial Ability instead of using the general phrase non-verbal reasoning. Deductive tasks can also be highly visual or interactive, so the product name and example format in your invitation should control your plan.

What does SHL Verify Interactive G+ include?

SHL describes Verify Interactive G+ as a general cognitive ability assessment that also produces numerical, deductive and inductive reasoning results. If G+ is named in your invitation, prepare the three underlying skills together rather than treating it as a numerical test alone.

Delivery details can vary by assessment version and employer configuration. Treat the instructions attached to your own assessment as authoritative for timing, navigation and allowed tools.
