Logical reasoning is a broad test family covering problems where a consistent relationship must be found and applied. Depending on the provider, the material may be verbal, numerical, symbolic or diagrammatic.

These tests measure analytical structure, rule discovery, elimination and the ability to stay accurate when the problem type changes quickly.

Question formats

What do the questions look like?

A mixed battery may move between number patterns, verbal relationships, symbol transformations and short constraint problems. Other tests keep one format but use unusually large answer sets or strict per-question limits.

A typical task

A code changes four symbols according to two transformation rules. You compare the input and output, identify the order in which the rules were applied and choose the next correct output.

Which providers use logical reasoning tests?

Korn Ferry / Talent Q-style logical ability uses abstract relationships and broad option sets. Aon challenge formats emphasise switching and compact interaction, while the Criteria CCAT mixes logic with verbal, maths and spatial questions at speed.
